Images of the students painting and the pop-up exhibition we did at Castelo do Queijo, in Porto. Students from the NIGHT PAINTING COURSE at Utopia Art School (Aug 1-4, 2023). For the final show, I brought one of the paintings that I am still exhibiting at the Monastery of Batalha (the exhibition that reacts to the light of mobile phones). As far as we know, it was THE FIRST REALISTIC NIGHT PAINTING COURSE IN THE WORLD. Recently, there was a course in the USA but not realistic. The concept of a formal 'nocturnal painting course' specifically focused on teaching realistic depiction of nighttime scenes is quite specific and does not have clear historical precedents. Nocturnal scenes have been depicted in art throughout history, but the formal teaching of this specific genre wasn't as distinct as other aspects of art education.

O PRIMEIRO CURSO DO MUNDO DE PINTURA REALISTA NOCTURNA: Imagens dos alunos a pintar e da exposição pop-up que fizémos no Castelo do Queijo, no Porto. Alunos do CURSO DE PINTURA NOCTURNA da Escola Utopia (1-4 de Agosto 2023). Para a mostra final, eu trouxe uma das pinturas que ainda estou a expor no Mosteiro da Batalha (a exposição que reage à luz dos telemóveis). Que saibamos, foi O PRIMEIRO CURSO DO MUNDO DE PINTURA REALISTA NOCTURNA. Recentemente, houve um curso nos EUA mas não era de realismo. Aos belíssimos anjos Maria Filomena Cordeiro Morais e Jose Pedro, bem hajam! O conceito de "curso de pintura noturna" formal focado especificamente no ensino de representações realistas de cenas noturnas é bastante específico e não tem um precedente histórico claro. As cenas noturnas foram retratadas na arte ao longo da história, mas o ensino formal desse género específico não era tão distinto quanto outros aspectos da educação artística.
